Abstract

In the context of reliability of distribution networks, this work provides a statistical characterization of key reliability parameters for effective management of medium-voltage (MV) networks. Specifically, six parameters are analyzed, namely time to locate, time to switch, time to start repair, time to repair, time to restore normal configuration, and time between failures. A statistical fitting procedure is applied to data obtained from a distribution system operator (DSO) database. This work considers both aggregated and disaggregated groups of MV network components. The obtained results show that overhead lines exhibit the longest location times, whereas underground cables takes the longest repair durations. The presented statistical characterization provides useful data for developing elaborated reliability models of MV networks with similar configurations and might be used as a valuable benchmark for future studies.
