Abstract Corona losses reduce transmission efficiency whilegenerating environmental noise and signal interference. Furthermore, the associated chemical discharges accelerate component aging, increasing operational and maintenance costs. This paper assesses the accuracy of prevalent corona loss formulas for overhead transmission lines under fair-weather conditions, the dominant weather condition for most power networks. Comparing these analytical models against international experimental data reveals significant discrepancies between predicted and measured losses. These findings emphasize the inadequacy of existing models and the urgent need for more robust predictive models. Key words: high-voltage, overhead power lines, corona losses, fair weather.
