Abstract The main challenges facing the Iraqi electrical network are insufficient infrastructure and the fast growth in demand. Advances in renewable energy technologies have made them one of the most actual techniques to address these issues. Because renewable energy systems have a largely static structure and lack significant inertia, they are more susceptible to frequency and voltage fluctuations, which makes the development of advanced control strategies necessary. CYME software was used to model the load demand of a section of Basra’s electrical grid, specifically the 5-Mile 33/11 kV substation. Using MATLAB, a hybrid control system combining photovoltaic (PV) generation and a synchronous generator was developed to supply these loads. The system was designed to prioritize local load supply, with any excess power exported to the grid when PV generation increases.Key words: PV, Hybrid, RoCoF, CYME, Grid, 5-Mile, MPPT.
